Why a publishing house from Nairobi
Oracle House Publishers started with a simple frustration: too many good Kenyan manuscripts were going straight into a drawer because the traditional path to print ran through another country, took a year, or cost more than a first-time author could afford.
So we built a publishing house that could do the whole job from home — editing, cover design, print production, nationwide delivery and sales — so a manuscript finished in Nairobi doesn't need a detour through London or Lagos to reach a reader in Kisumu, Eldoret or Mombasa.
We're still a small house. That's deliberate — it's what lets an author call and get an answer, and what lets a reader pay by M-Pesa and have a paperback at their door in two or three days.

We publish writers telling Kenyan and African stories in their own voice, for readers who rarely see themselves on a cover.
Fair to authors
Royalty rates are written down, visible to the author, and never quietly recalculated after a book sells. Payouts run on a schedule, not a favour.
Craft over shortcuts
Every title goes through real editing and proofreading before it goes to print. A rushed book costs an author their reputation, not just a sale.
Access for every reader
M-Pesa checkout, county-aware courier pricing and an e-book edition for every title we can — a book shouldn't stay out of reach over logistics.
Straight talk
Stock counts, delivery estimates and royalty statements say what's actually true, including when the answer is 'not yet' or 'out of stock'.
Built for the long run
We'd rather grow slowly with authors we keep than chase volume with ones we lose. A backlist is a relationship, not a one-off transaction.
What we actually do
Publish
Editorial review, cover design and print production — paperback, printed editions and e-book, each title carrying its own ISBN.
Sell
A storefront built for Kenya: M-Pesa STK push at checkout, card as a fallback, and courier delivery priced by county in 2–3 days.
Pay
Every sale accrues to the author's royalty statement the same day. Statements are paid out on a fixed monthly schedule, not on request.
